Make Christmas Eve Memorable With the 12 Hours of Christmas

Make your Christmas stress free and one that your kids will look forward to for years to come!
This takes some planning ahead but is lots of fun for everyone! (Christmas shopping has to be done before the 24th for this to work but well worth the effort!

Purchase a special bell of some type that you can ring every hour on the hour for the next 12 hours to count down to Christmas Eve. Once you ring the bell the family gathers at the Christmas tree and the fun begins! Have an activity planned for everyone to enjoy! Watch the magic of Christmas begin with those you love! (Start at 8 or 9 in the morning and continue until 7 or 8 that night.)

FIRST HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Prepare a special breakfast or go out to breakfast and have breakfast burritos or sweet rolls, juice and fruit...whatever you think your family would really like.

SECOND HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Put together a Christmas puzzle. There are lots of cute ones out there! They can be as hard or as easy as you want them to be depending on the ages of children in your family.

THIRD HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Hand each family member a Christmas card (you can purchase some festive ones in the Christmas Twigs Christmas Shoppe). Put all family names in a hat and each person draws a name out of the hat. They then write a special message for the person they drew and make a coupon for one nice thing they will do for them over the holiday. The trick is to put it on their pillow without anyone seeing them sometime during the day and they can read it before they go to bed.

FOURTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Make up some taffy and have an old fashioned taffy pull! This is sure to bring some smiles & fun!

FIFTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Plan a fun festive lunch for your family. You could even go on an outdoor winter picnic or keep it indoors & eat by a crackling fire in the fireplace.

SIXTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS:
Have a treasure hunt and each child has their own tailored treasure hunt (which you can have older children help you prepare for the younger ones the day before. Mom and Dad can handle the older children's hunt.) The prize can be a special Pipka Santa ornament (found in our Christmas Shoppe under ornaments) to add to or start their own collection with. Or how about a tin of delicious gourmet fudge from Bellas Confections in our Gourmet Fudge Shoppe?

SEVENTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Everyone enjoys a mug of hot chocolate complete with a scoop of whip cream and a peppermint stick for a stirrer. Mom or Dad shares a story by the tree.

EIGHTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Gather around the Christmas tree or piano and each family member chooses their favorite Christmas Carol and then sing each one. You can add some simple instruments for everyone to play along (like drum out of oatmeal box, bells strung on a ribbon , kazoo, or harmonica, etc...Be creative!

NINTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Play a game based on the book "The Night Before Christmas". Hand out paper and pencils, crayons, markers etc...assign each person a page in the book and they draw a scene. Everyone tries to guess what page in the book they have drawn. Once all have had a turn and everything has been guessed read the book and have the person stand up and hold their picture up when their page is read. Each member of the family may have to draw more than one picture. Have fun!

TENTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Time to make a festive table spread for dinner.  Some families have traditional Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve.  This could be one of your hours of Christmas.  If not, create a memorable (can be simple but fun) creative dinner to enjoy with your children.

ELEVENTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Let everyone open a present.  How about pajamas or a special ornament to add to their decor.  Pick out a Pipka Santa ornament or snowglobe or collectible Santa for your children to add to their  own Christmas collection.  If you like the idea of an ornament, you could also choose a beautiful handmade Santa head ornament by Deanna Brenner.  There are several to choose from.

TWELFTH HOUR OF CHRISTMAS
Gather round the tree or fireplace and read the story of the Nativity in Luke 2.  Have family members dress up and act out the Nativity as Dad reads the story of the first Christmas!

Make this Christmas a memorable one by celebrating the 12 hours of Christmas with your family!  After all, that is what Christmas is all about!
